Monday Seagull’s review published on Letterboxd:
A masterwork, but the rewatch offered some slightly diminished returns. The first time I saw this, I felt the same playful charm as early Godard. With this viewing, I experienced the occasional tedium of late Godard. (Yuck)
However, with that said..
• I consider the east coast, traveling montage one of the greatest sequences in cinema (I’ve spoken before about my passion for still photography in motion pictures—this is its greatest example),
• South American Getaway is one of my all-time favourite compositions.
• Watching Paul Newman ride a bicycle is divine. I only wish he’d been cast in Breaking Away or Quicksilver or Rad.
