American Movie 1999
Loveable weirdos are not usually in my wheelhouse but Mark is so sincere and determined that I cannot help but root for him every step of the way. This film could’ve very easily been mean spirited and completely exploitative but you can tell the filmmakers took the time to get to know these people and earn their trust- and I think the cult following this has is a testament to their sincerity and good intentions (as well as Mark and Mike’s.) I don’t believe in the American dream or America being anything close to a meritocracy, but this makes me wish I did.

i respect the innovation/hustle!!!
that being said, i think watching this in a theater is not even remotely ideal. it does this a disservice honestly. get the closest thing to a sensory deprivation chamber and watch it on your damn phone.
