This film has me filled with all sorts of mixed thoughts.
If ANYONE else had made this film, I probably would have really loved it. It's fun and fast and quirky and all the good things I want in a film.
But not just anyone made this film. Edgar Wright made it. And 3 of his films are in my top 20 favorite films of all time.
This is the least Edgar Wright film he's made. The transitions aren't as clever and fun, there aren't nearly as many cuts and edits, and it lacks a certain quirk.
Some of the writing and delivery felt too on the nose, as I felt myself taken out of the film several times by the dialogue. I thought several of the performances were good, but a few were just too much.
All of that being said, I'm glad he made this film and is having success with it. I hope he one day floats back into what made me love him, but there is a lot of good in this film to behold.
I may change my ranking after seeing it again, but as of right now, I'm a tad disappointed.
