An exhilarating popcorn action flick with stunning visuals that were almost overshadowed by abismal dialogue and even worse acting. Other than Tig Notaro (who wasn't originally casted), it didn't feel like any of the actors were able to embody their character. Mostly because the characters weren't developed very well, and the dynamics between them didn't really matter, making the actual storylines within the film fall flat. There were some new zombie elements introduced that added to the original screenplay, which helped distract from the less impressive aspects of the story.
Zack Snyder seems to be one of the more polarizing filmmakers over the last 15 years or so. Audiences either love or hate his standard techniques, but to me, it's undeniable that his vision as a cinematographer is among the best ever. His camera work combined with the incredible VFX make this film an aesthetic masterpiece, if you just ignore all of the acting and dialogue.
If you like gorey, gnarly deaths, watch this.
