A rich and complex tale of the cost of chasing dreams and dealing with your own demons. Jessie Buckley knocks it out of the park and Julie Walters holds down the fort beautifully.
I’m not a fan of people calling this any kind of a version of A Star is Born. This is a better character study of someone chasing a dream and dealing with the realities of their own choices. Also, there is not a male figure that takes her under his wings. Finally, there is no love story that weighs this film down in long stretches. I really liked A Star is Born, but this film is a completely different look at fame and going for a goal.
