Blindspotting ★★★★½

Blindspotting is without a doubt one of the biggest surprises of the year, and I’m disappointed in myself to have seen it so long after it came out. Not only is it highly relevant in ongoing racial related issues, it’s handled in such a brilliantly original fashion with a fantastic grasp on tone.

I applaud writers and stars Daveed Diggs and Rafael Casal, as well as Carlos López Estrada directing his first feature film, for crafting a fascinating examination of the lives of two best friends in Oakland and how it is tested because of their identity. It’s clever, it’s hilarious, it’s dramatic, it’s heartbreaking, it’s so many thing piled into one, and never once does it feel disjointed or uneven.

So, yeah, go see it.
