Don't Look Up

Don't Look Up ★½

Ugh, almost every time I started to like a scene in this film it decided to trudge on well past the point where it made its, well, point. This is a good analogy for the film itself which effectively tells Its main joke in the first 30 minutes, then proceeds to do the same joke over and over and over and over and over for another two hours.

Ultimately I agree with the filmmakers on the topic of climate change, but the film can’t decide how it wants to approach it. It’s too broad and goofy to effectively be a satire. There’s no nuance or sense of accomplishment in “getting” the joke because it’s so obvious. This could have worked if the film embraced this goofiness, but it ultimately takes itself too seriously to really be funny.

There are some good moments, but even they tend to get dragged out. The film itself ultimately is not fun and doesn’t really provoke any thoughts. It just exists. And frustrates.
