Entertaining enough as a standard-issue horror movie with ridiculous premise. 100% of the horror is the "booga booga booga look at this scary face jump scare!" variety.
I do appreciate extra-silly gimmicks like an evil phone death app. They explain in the movie there is a Latin curse embedded in the Countdown app code. It makes me wonder if that curse is stored in the Java code as commentary or if the app was written was some sort of new…
Oh dear. This was not good. Here's the quick rundown:
1) The animation was noticeably below current standards (lack of detail, movement, etc).
2) The audio sync and timing was off. It really felt like a series of actors talking alone in a sound booth strung together into an audio track.
3) The voice acting fell flat. Most of the performance felt mailed-in.
4) The writing was not good. The story was not engaging nor funny. A five-year-old will not know the difference, but its a tough slog for parents like me.
I love well-made children's animation. I did not love this movie.
