Raiders of the Lost Ark

Raiders of the Lost Ark ★★★★★

With Raiders of the Lost Ark Steven Spielberg and George Lucas took the Saturday Morning Serials of the 30s and 40s and transformed them into something that decades later would still be considered one of the best action-adventure films ever made - take the action sequences from all of the Fast and the Furious movies and you still wouldn't equal the awesomeness that was the truck chase in Raiders - and then, of course, you have Harrison Ford playing an adventurer version of Philip Marlowe who is constantly getting the shit kicked out of him but then getting right back up for more. If there is a more badass and iconic screen hero than Indiana Jones I haven't come across it yet.

Then we have Karen Allen who may be filling the "Damsel in Distress" role but her fire and spunk makes her an equal to anyone else in this movie. Then to top it all off you have one of John Williams' best scores. the brilliant sound design of Ben Burt and the spectacular stunt work of Vic Armstrong all adding up to make a film that is pretty much perfection.

Simply put, Raiders of the Lost Ark is a great action film that loses none of its punch no matter how many times you watch it, and seriously, how can you not love a film that ends with melting Nazis?
