This may very well be Stone’s masterwork. As a filmmaker who too often let’s the docudrama steer his vision, this pure fiction brings out something potent while still political.
Upgraded since last viewing. What stood out this time was just how economical this picture is... Carpenter packs a hell of a lot into 90 minutes, even with that absurdly drawn out fight scene. A Western at heart, but also an ingenious bit of pulp sci-fi that deserves canon recognition.
