Hilarious in every sense of the word, but just not as consistent as Christopher Guest’s other works. A Mighty Wind features a lengthy portion of the runtime devoted to the music, which is similar to Spinal Tap, but those movies differ with the songs and stage performances themselves used as vehicles for in-jokes. Folk songs in their nature are cheesy, and even though they sound good, if you aren’t exactly a fan of folk music, this could get old very quick. Harry Shearer, Fred Willard, and Eugene Levy are all the standouts here, with Jane Lynch and Jennifer Coolidge giving great smaller scenes. The mockumentary is a format that I wish was made more, because movies like this are a rare but excellent breed.
