Could I perhaps just take a bath here?
A masterclass in the cryptic. My first film from writer/director Alex van Warmerdam and I love what I've seen so far. He gives you just enough to make you think you know what's going on and then proceeds to have his way with your brain.
I loved how Borgman, disturbingly played by Jan Bijvoet, and his cohorts have an obvious history together that is never explained, but simply made apparent by their performances together. Their actual relationships aren't even explained to us, but it doesn't matter.
Borgman controls everything and is like an extension of van Warmerdam who is in complete control of every moment of this film without a single frame being wasted. Defies proper explanation, but it's not just the performances but visually haunting and incredibly memorable unique moments of things I had never even imagined of seeing.
