Emma. ★★★★

Oh, oh Mother, do you hear? MISS WOODHOUSE HAS INVITED US TO HARTFIELD!
-Miss Bates

Simply delightful!

Seriously though I was completely caught off guard by how much I enjoyed this. Anya Taylor-Joy is fantastic. Mia Goth is incredibly vulnerable and her smile is infectious. Bill Nighy hardly has to do a damn thing to make me laugh out loud. The cast is perfect.

It’s director Autumn de Wilde’s first feature film and Eleanor Catton’s first produced screenplay. I gotta say it’s impressive making a familiar work like Emma feel fresh and new instead of making an audience ask if we really needed yet another adaptation. Turns out we did.
