Did it's job well although there are a few spots that betray the rewritten story. Nailed the aesthetics of the originals which definitely helped paper over the cracks.

This is "Ichi the Killer" or "Dead or Alive" Miike with absurdity turned up to a solid 11. It felt like insane live action manga with full commitment from the cast. Definitely niche entertainment, if you don't like it I would question why you would have even watched it in the first place.
