    One of the worst adaptations I've had the misfortune to watch. It looks great but it's been shorn of all emotional and intellectual depth which admittedly is pretty light to begin with as the novel was aimed at 8 to 12 year olds. I'd have rather watched a terrible version that was completely faithful to the source material than this interpretation. I've been dreaming of this as a film since I first read the book aged 9 and I just could not be more disappointed. Read the book.

    Damn, that Jonathan Glazer is an amazing director. A portrait of grief and psychological trauma mixed with creepy horror concerning reincarnation treated in a realist manner. It's beautiful to look at, you're emotionally invested in characters brilliantly realized by the cast, and the story pays off. What more can you ask for? I, for one, would ask him to make films at a faster rate than one every 7 years.

    An almost totally nonsensical story allied with hyper-stylized visuals, no characterization or emotional attachment to any character but with a superb cast. I don't know why I like this film so much but it probably has something to do with Richard O'Brien being creepy in it.
