Always Shine ★★★½

Supremely creepy and full of delightful directorial showboating. Didn't fuck me up as much as Queen of Earth (or my beloved Respire, to name a less superficially similar but equally cutthroat recent film about a crumbling female friendship), but I still kind of want to watch it again—if only to get a better grip on the performances of Davis and Fitzgerald, both of whom have clearly put in more layered and complicated work than can be absorbed on a single viewing.
