In the Mood for Love

In the Mood for Love ★★★★

"Siempre que te pregunto, que cuándo, cómo y dónde... tú siempre me respondes: quizás, quizás, quizás..."

Talking about love my friends... this film is sensual, nostalgic and sad in so many levels, beautifully captured by the camera and the way how it moves smoothly on every scene, with such a delicatese...

Performances also embody every emotion, every sense of emotion, to the point where you believe and feel every word delivered by these two hopeless romantics.

I also found so fascinating how through all the feature, none of their couples actually showed up. Because, unfortunately for them, they are ghosts... a stumble upon the Summer of Love that Chan and Mu-Wan had for each other.

The score is pretty minimalistic, with only two songs playing over and over again. Nonetheless, Nat King Cole´s cover of the uberly popular Cuban song and the little score are both positioned on the right moments, almost like War already had done with California Dreamin back on Express. He and his composers are such a master of the cue processs.

As I was writing this, I've been struggling to either give it a 4 or 4.5.... but the ending felt so anti-climatic and it actually takes a while to really kick off.

But man! When it does... this is perhaps one of the greatest romantic drama ever to bless the screen.
