really fantastic work, especially for the time it was made, my god! love the wompy score, harsh lighting, exaggerated movements, the powerpuff girls-esque buildings. feels strangely orwellian

maybe it's partly the nostalgia but i love this movie so goddamn much, the dark whimsical fantasy aesthetic and mix of live action and stop-motion animation work so well for this story. i adore henry selick and his penchant for making nightmarish childhood toy box type movies that don't lose their spark as an adult
