MTWDCinema’s review published on Letterboxd:
I didn’t enjoy “Age of Innocence” all that much unfortunately. It’s pretty similar to Scorsese’s other films - at least in terms of themes and characters - but what’s certainly unique here is the situation.
And just like I didn’t like the ‘situation’ of a children’s film - “Hugo” is probably my least favorite Martin Scorsese movie - I don’t exactly like the ‘situation’ of a period piece, either.
However, in spite of that, this movie certainly excels in terms of acting and costume design and set design (even if at times the visuals seemed to overload and overshadow the actual story itself).
I have to add that the 4K scan I watched of the film was stunning, and I couldn’t watch this movie any other way.
