I had an excellent time watching this and Gremlins 2 as a blind watch double feature. The idea of like a 6 year old kid and his Mom going to see this in 1984 and watching that blender scene is just the funniest thing to me. So much of this is surreal high comedy, the best example probably being the girl's long tragic story leading up to the punchline of realizing Santa wasn't real. Or maybe the bank customer chiming in on what would be an effective method of dog murder. Terrific stuff. Just a really effective blend of humor and light scares that feels like it only could have been made at this exact point in the 80s.
