Da 5 Bloods ★★★

Going into this movie, I was excited to see what Spike Lee would be able to do as I had just finished Malcom C the night before and while this movie had some solid performances, a decent plot, and a huge emphasis on Black power/creativity/justice (a topic that Spike Lee is able to strongly convey in almost all of his films) everything felt off and almost generic in a sense. To me, there was generic and predictable relationship issues and conflicts, some questionable filming choices which includes a POV of one of the characters talking to you(there is a greater underlying meaning to it but it seemed poorly executed) and weird changes in aspect ratio which sort of ruined the immersion a bit. Overall, Da 5 Bloods didn’t really feel like a Spike Lee joint but rather some other decent action flick with touches of Spike Lee’s influence.
