Michael Wells’s review published on Letterboxd:
A lot of fun elements here, which makes this misfire a real shame. Amazingly enough, Bob Odenkirk really sold me as a menacing action star even before his character went that direction. Unfortunately, this is a misuse of his incredible range. The action guy lines are there, but the script doesn’t take advantage of Odenkirk’s comedic gifts at all. The John Wick influence from the film’s shared screenwriter is obvious - guy with a dark, mysterious past trying to go straight until the Russian mob won’t let him - but lacks the fun of its influence both in dialogue and action direction. Whereas a JW fight scene makes use of its setting and is genuinely entertaining, the action scenes here rely on sheer brutality, which just isn’t very fun, creative or entertaining.
