i don't think i will ever not be angry with the nolan batman films.
but let's just focus on this one scene. the "it's a nice coat" scene. because it is the perfect evidence for just how committed nolan's films are to using gotham's systemic inequality as set dressing rather than a moral condemnation on those in power.

in the summer heat of 2012 (i think), i (a not-yet-out-to-self white enby) was spending the afternoon and evening at the lakeside suburban home of one of my mom's white evangelical friends. while my mom and the wife were out to dinner, i was hanging out with the friend's kids in the 'care' of her husband.

absolutely wild to make a film that so weirdly and accurately portrays ways in which i've processed some of these kinds of traumas.

maybe a little too weird. a little too on the nose. a little too the extraneous violence from girl with a dragon tattoo mixed with like 2 hours of the extraneous bussing of girls to a party in mark's imagination in the social network.
