I can confidently say this is my favorite James Wan work so far, stylistically, it feels like a mixture between Argento and Stuart Gordon (the movie has a cold open very similar to that of Re-Animator). It’s fun, it’s cheesy and it captures the vibe of so many classic Giallo/Slasher horror films that came out in the 80s, while still feeling like a signature Wan movie. This could have sat comfortably alongside movies like Phenomena, Curtains, Stage Fright and House…
Quick First Impressions: Feels like a spiritual successor to Maniac, with classier execution, loved every second of it, it’s so tense throughout and though it’s not as sleazy and grimy as the afore mentioned movie, it has some really grisly and disturbing moments that you will not easily forget, the main performance by Najarra Townsend is STUNNING! Holy shit was I floored by this film.
What a pleasant surprise.
