I'm fully aware this is a deeply flawed movie but despite the inane characters & the absurd Americanisation of Godzilla I still have a nostalgic admiration for this as I was OBSESSED as a child. It was basically this & Jurassic Park on repeat because Dinosaurs are fucking awesome.
It's bombastic, it's fucking stupid but it's fun. A bad Godzilla film but still entertaining as a giant monster movie.
Hillwalkers is oh so generic, it hits every possible genre trope going & the plot unfolds with little urgency or danger but I enjoyed it?
Was it the vaguely recognisable scenery that I could place myself in the situation? Was it the confidently shot, above average visuals that won me over? Maybe it was the acting of Mark Agar whos character is hilariously unhinged?
Maybe it was my delicious Mango Chilli Chicken. Who knows? but it bagged a 3 & I don't regret it.
A film full of moments but not a cohesive narrative, Napoleon jumps from point to point without particular reason other than this thing happened & then this thing, rather than the why & how or the consequences of it all. Felt like there was alot of connective material missing & I don't think it managed to properly convey the driven, charismatic, egotistical nature of Napoleon that the story was trying to tell.
I still enjoyed it tho....Joaquin Phoenix is good (obviously), Vanessa Kirby…
