“Ju-on: The curse of one who dies in the grip of powerful rage.”
better than all the american remakes, though not by as much as it probably should be. it works the non-linear narrative competently (less disconnect than the US ones) and establishes a good myth around the grudge but i found it lacking a compelling buildup. some of the chapters are obviously better than others and that makes the lesser ones feel so very long and boring, especially when it starts getting repetitive towards the end. the suspense clicks only within the individual segments for me. definitely worth a watch for the iconic image of the white-faced spirit accompanied by cat screams and that HORRIBLE croaking sound.
and yet again this one also has an uncanny pandemic subtext to it with the grudge getting picked up from the sick houses and carried home to families who die one after the other!
