    The Miseducation of Cameron Post

This film was a lot funnier than I expected, and I appreciate how themes like this (that's in reality very dark, and hits a little too close to home) are elevated by a good dose of lightness. But the psychological journey of Cameron didn't quite fully build up and pay off for me, so while I genuinely enjoyed it, it wasn't as affecting as I'd expected.

(Chloë Grace Moretz definitely gives one of her finer performances here. It just felt...natural.)

  • The Darjeeling Limited

    The Darjeeling Limited

While I regard this as Wes Anderson’s most aesthetically beautiful film, it also has cinematography that is surprisingly, more grounded in realism than usual. This also applies to the plot, as emotional themes at work here are more serious, and are given more weight (but not examined much further beyond the surface, it seems).
This is where the film sometimes falters for me, in balancing the serious nature of family dysfunction and other matters with Anderson's typical dry, whimisical wit…

  • A Star Is Born

    A Star Is Born

As a modern remake of a well-known plot line that doesn't offer much originality nor surprise, the success of A Star Is Born depends on its ability to convey affecting 'classical' melodrama in modern times. The movie succeeds, mostly due to the effectiveness of its central duo.
Lady Gaga gives a respectable first-time performance, but for me she shines the most through her formidable ability to express emotions through her singing. Cooper's performance is intelligent and muted, so deftly portrayed…

  • Love, Simon

    Love, Simon

It’s a start. Utterly harmless and appropriately represented gayness for the masses. Too well-intended for me to get all snobbish tbh

    Nymphomaniac: Vol. I

Promising start and really stimulating discussions. Yet vol. 2 almost erased anything good about everything
