    A Ghost Story review

Where do I begin with this one? So I heard about the film doing the rounds in the festivals back mid-late July of 2017, there was a lot of buzz but I never had gotten around to watching it until now, now that it's 2018 it's quite unfortunate that I can't put this on my 17 list because it is absolutely lovely.

The story is simple, it's a story of a couple but focuses on the…

    Chungking Express

I honestly still see this as one of the best films in the last 30 years. 王菲's presence on screen is still as eye catching and memorable as ever.

    Absolute masterpiece by 王家衛.

  • The Red Turtle

    The Red Turtle

I've been meaning to watch this for a while now. After reading a few reviews about it and knowing Studio Ghibli's partial involvement in producing The Red Turtle I was quite intrigued. I'm by no means a die-hard Studio Ghibli fan but I have to say the overall visual style was beautifully crafted and drawn up.

This movie has no dialogue and it works for only about the first third of the story. It starts off quite strong, as this…

    I, Tonya

Wasn't great but it wasn't a bore. Didn't necessarily need to be as long as it was.

    Wind River

First one to kickstart the new year.

Great crime thriller piece set in the cold spring of Wyoming. Solid performances from Renner and Olsen that help drive that emotional home run at the end. Would recommend.

    You'll float too!!

  • Baby Driver

    Baby Driver

Another stellar Edgar Wright film from the get go, in a sense Baby Driver is what people who watched Refns 2011 Drive expected it to be.

The fast pace and clever editing injects Baby Driver with a youthful charm. Compared to his 'cornetto' trilogy, this one is probably the most energetic with The Worlds End closely followed behind.

Pretty disgusting but its really good

  • Arrival

Denis Villeneuve knocks it out of the park again.

Amazing cinematography, great use of intentional focus to highlight/diminish shots flow with the narrative.

Some elements felt forced after having read the story it's based on, however, the sentimental emotion and tension carried through by the music (especially that string section) was well deserving.

As some have said, while this does contain the 'alien encounter' trope, this plot is used more as a tool to tell the tale of a rekindling…

  • The Neon Demon

    The Neon Demon

I would say this is an antivisceral film by refn. The neon demon explores the different facets of beauty and it indulges itself with its own vanity. I would say, ultimately this over indulgence throughout the movie does wear thin. There is a definetly a certain depth to the neon demon however it feels narcisstic(if you can call a film narcisstic). Beautiful as always though..

Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice

Zack Snyder's 3 hour vision of Batman v Superman 'The Ultimate Edition' was actually a watchable movie. The additional cuts that have been added to the theatrical release were necessary to understand the ridiculous mess that came out in March.

Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice

This review may contain spoilers. I can handle the truth.

This movie has been a long time coming. Everyone wanted to see it, two hugely iconic superheroes in the DC universe coming together in a feature film and does it succeed in giving us that?

..Yes.. it does.. however, its not really good. Batman v Superman is a mess. I really felt that there was a heart or a soul attached to this project in the early stages, announcing Ben Affleck as Batman was like a spark that ignited a…
