This film is essentially a teenage lesbian James Bond Disney Channel original movie, and I unironically think it’s some of the best queer cinema ever made. I legitimately wonder on weekly basis how a movie studio green lit this in 2004, but my god am I glad they did. Such a hidden gem, an absolute comfort movie, and a personal favorite.

I…don’t know if I liked this. I don’t know. Absurdity, outright wackiness, and unsettling peculiarity take center stage in a way that really does work, but only sometimes. It can be hilarious and biting and so off the deep end that it’s brilliant, but just for brief moments, before it’s buried in randomness that is never explained and only ends up detracting from what could have something truly special. The little slice of comedically deranged suburban hellscape that was created in this movie makes it worth a watch - it truly is fun - but it’s not enough to carry the film.

I went into this expecting grittier than usual standard superhero fare, and was instead greeted with an intricately plotted murder mystery. This isn’t really a superhero film, and that’s what I like about it. It’s bleak, almost muted, and can feel oddly rooted in reality at times. But I’m all for it. Perfection. I don’t even know what else to say. Watching these movies has been such a joy. The scale of everything, especially in this movie, is just amazing to see. Good god these films are long and take forever to watch, but what an experience they are.
