    Ummmmmmmm…yeah?

Needed to process this one a little bit since last nights early screening. I like a lot of it, and kinda hated some of it. The first half has some atrociously aggressive editing that made my head spin and sometimes the tone of the film was bouncing all over the place when it could’ve very easily settled and been much more powerful.

Austin Butler is undeniably a star. He transformed into this iconic legend. After a while you just…

    Crimes of the Future

    ★★★★

I was hooked from the very start…

Crimes of the Future offers some of the most complex themes and lavish world-building I’ve had the pleasure of viewing since Blade Runner 2049. It’s performances from everyone are stellar, with the standout being Viggo Mortenson to me. The film stumbles only a couple times for me. I exited the theater already hungry to dive back into this insane world and story that David Cronenberg had crafted.

    Jurassic World Dominion

    ★★

    Oof. That was rough.

The movie going experience was not too bad for me, as I got to take my girlfriends little brother, but the film itself is a whole other bag. The writing might just be some of the laziest, laugh out loud worthy (in the worst possible way), and insane I’ve seen all this year. Probably the past three years. They totally butchered the returning cast members from the original, essentially boiling them down to nostalgia bait. The…

    Judas and the Black Messiah

    ★★★★

    Sundance 2021 Film NO. 17

Judas And The Black Messiah might not do a whole lot to push the envelope in storytelling, it sure does make up for it in performances and pure power. This film delivers so many messages that are important in today’s age and climate. But just like the character we follow for the majority of the story, William (LaKeith Stanfield), the lines are blurred and it’s hard to decipher where we fall.

    I just want to…

    In the Heights

    ★★★★

This absolutely floored me. In The Heights delivered for me on every single level. The dance numbers and songs are perfect, the performances and incredibly human, the humor works surprisingly well, and the cinematography tied everything together with the perfect bow on top.

Anthony Ramos really surprised me here. Not only does he nail the dancing and singing, he delivers on the emotional core of the story. He brings this swagger and charm to his performance that makes the emotion being…
