This is Ethan Hawke becoming a role model for Gen X in their middle ages. Especially those of us who left, struggled, or just keep going in the faith, either openly or not, of their families.

It was so well crafted and made with love. I went back and forth on the arguments and ideas in this film, some seemed so juvenile or specious and others were so compelling, and that's when I realized how great this film was for presenting complexity, reactions and the human cost.

Can't say much more without spoilers.

So, Tobe Hooper had a style and vision from the beginning. This is a horror movie without it knowing it was, and without the violence, or victims.

This movie holds up so well. Looking at it in an early 1980s lens, it's f-ing progressive as hell.

Screw Bruce Willis and Eli Roth for remaking Death Wish, this is a revenge/justice movie that could have actually been applicable to today, but they, and everyone else, would have screwed it up.

Some incredible shots, and what they did with lipstick alone was a master class.

However, having a saxophone sound come out of a trumpet....

I doubt I can add anything that hasn't already been said about this film. It did hit me right in the feels, as alienated-teenage-stuff often will. After it was over, the feeling I was left with was a low-level anxiety, which is very weird since it was legitimately one of the funniest movies I've seen in a while.
