A film that contrasts its bone-rattling, full-body-goosebump sequences with quiet, emotional lows in a brilliant way. The real-time feeling of the pacing that Mendes creates with his “no cuts” technique perfectly suits the style. A fantastic cinema experience. Will surely go down as one of the great, classic war films. Oh, and it made me cry.
Ari Aster needs help. Hereditary and then this?? While I didn’t find this quite as impactful as his 2018 feature directorial debut, Midsommar is equally brutal and beautiful. Whether its the fact that the most visceral sequences are almost completely silent or that all the horror takes place in blinding daylight, Aster creates a universe in which every step forward seems to unnerve you even more.
