“This means something. This is important.”
-Best 100 Movies of All Time
After the first 20 minutes, this really fell off for me. They went from fun, creepy, eerie, alien scenes to Richard Dreyfuss heaving dirt through a window and losing his mind. I understand the fundamental concept that this supernatural experience would be emotionally scarring, but come on. The whole middle act isn’t a drag, but it’s just not interesting. In my mind, Close Encounters of the Third Kind is an amazing concept, that fumbles the execution. It’s not bad, but it’s so painfully average. This could’ve been much better than it is, but instead ends up just being forgettable.
