Life post war isn't pleasant and this film mirrors the mood and impact of a post war Russia via its two leading women, the beanpole Iya (Viktoriya Miroshnichenko) and Masha (Vasilisa Perelygina). Both are suffering their trauma in different ways yet come together to deal with life's tragedies via their touching relationship.
The subject matter wasn't always pleasant, but this was definitely a beautiful movie to watch, the cinematography a definitely highlight. But it did ran a little long for its own good, yet thankfully it maintained enough interest via the lead's performances and it's off-beat story.
