Fantastic. A truly unsettling relative of The Descent and The Blair Witch Project, likely to be a favorite of 2018.

Compelled to write on this because the reviews I've seen thus far are pretty negative and I didn't dislike this film at all. I was never bored or annoyed watching it and while that's an admittedly low bar to set, I'm used to big-budget Hollywood genre adaptations leaving me cold. I wasn't familiar with the source material but I got a strong sense of SK's usual tropes in spite of it not being horror content at all. Is a vast mythology watered down to cram into 95mins? Probably - but a sprawling, dragged-out 3-hour epic is no good alternative.

Perfection. Some of the green screen effects don't hold up but it's still hard to believe the film came out over ten years ago. It's better every time I see it. Tune in to The Faculty of Horror's February episode for the deep dive.
