I feel like I need to preface this by saying that while I’ve read the book, and I love the plot and critiques of our current world, I hated reading it, and I don’t know that I’d even say I’m a fan.
However, I really enjoyed this film, it’s sweeping and expansive and gorgeous. It’s obvious Villeneuve really respects the source material, and I was impressed how he was able to communicate so much complicated exposition clearly and efficiently. So much of the film-making was masterful, but I was super impressed with the editing, it feels literary in a way I found very intriguing. Loved it. The cast was great and I especially can’t wait to see more of Javier Bardem as Stilgar (perfect casting), Timothée as Paul, and Rebecca Ferguson as Jessica. And of course, my boy Oscar Isaac was so good. It was so fun to watch this in a completely packed, (fully vaxxed) theater with a bunch of Dune Nerds, the energy was incredible. I really hope that this gets its sequels.
