After the unprecedented financial success of Bohemian Rhapsody, Dexter Fletcher continues the musical biopic trend train with Rocketman which follows the life of music icon Elton John and the results are far superior. Or at least when you compare it to Bohemian Rhapsody. A vibrant, energetic and entertaining film that hopefully takes this fad in a much more positive direction. Elevated by terrific performances from both Taron Egerton and Jamie Bell and fantastic musical sequences that never come off as cringeworthy, Rocketman is a film that actually seems to have a heart and treats the life of our main character accordingly even when the film suffers from genre clichés and a second half that definitely drags.
