Platoon ★★★★½

Often uncompromising and yet at the same time accessible, ‘Platoon’ makes for difficult viewing when the lunacy of war slowly unfurls, and it’s hard to settle on a single emotion when so many of the characters both contradict and endear themselves in various doses.

Given the numerous retellings of a war that could have so easily been avoided, I would have to admit that this Oliver Stone approach carved out its own place in the top five, and deservedly so.

If you haven’t seen it, then you owe it to yourself to watch it in its latest incarnation (4K remaster) and see how it moves you, and likewise if you have, then this version holds up well on the eyes.
