Stephen Cook’s review published on Letterboxd:
The amount of super cool visuals, effects, and ideas here makes it so frustrating that it ultimately doesn't come together. But it's a Cronenberg movie so not much of a surprise. I'm inspired by his work more than most filmmakers but I think he's only made one movie I'd call great ("The Fly") and the rest I have a frustrating love for held back by where they just don't work for me. I remembered liking Scanners a lot less my first viewing, and it's better than I remember, but still leaves something to be desired.
