Over-indulgent and excessive on the whole? Yes.
But a genuinely terrifying and spooky retelling of a horror classic? Also yes.
Sure, the parts are larger than the sum here, but as far as the purpose of *great* horror cinema goes, atleast in my opinion, which is to above all else be a visual and audial experience to shake you up from your core with images and moments that will be hard to get off after a long time, this one succeeds with flying colors. Guadagnino knows what he's doing, man. He knows.
Also, Tilda Swinton. Enough said.
The superior 2018 horror film about motherhood, as well.
