The Exorcist ★★★½

Director's Cut

Do you know what she did, your cunting daughter?

Pre-nineties horror is something I have explored very little, but I hear The Exorcist was somewhat of a breakthrough in scariness back in the day. It still holds its own quite well, maybe not in visual scares but certainly in narrative. That build-up throughout is masterclass. It's not the kind of tension modern horror does so well, but just a really scary situation for a parent to be in. It probably doesn't hit me as hard as someone who has a kid.
