To All the Boys: P.S. I Still Love You

this movie isn’t anything really special, but honestly it’s super charming and oddly relatable in the way that it portrays high school relationship dynamics. i’ll admit sometimes it’s clunky and the writing sucks, but there are some scenes had me perplexed because how surprisingly realistic they were. also it’s just cute, and valentine’s day probably had something to do with my more positive leanings. maybe this sucks! i don’t really know

    The Hunger Games

i used to jump on the hate bandwagon for this one, but genuinely i think this movie is really good! the only good hunger games movie in my opinion. the games actually have a tangible horror and fear factor to them, jennifer lawrence is great, and i’m very glad i gave it a rewatch!

this was so sweet, and i was really surprised by how nuanced the message of this movie was. a little cliché but still very clever.

this is michael bay. just pure uncut, unadulterated, michael bay. it’s everything he’s good at, and everything he absolutely sucks at. so basically the action is the best part, and everything else is shit. oh and ryan reynolds is pretty cool i guess.
side-note. the continuity was noticeably bad that it made some of this feel like a fever dream. michael bay was truly pushing how much the sensation of action can compensate for having no geographical or physical clarity. dave…

Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker

now that the initial shock of all the reveals is gone i liked this a little more. it’s still not great and has a pretty decent amount of issues, but i felt the little bits of heart. i could see the good in some of the scenes, there’s just not enough time to flesh any of it out, or it’s just not executed well.

Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker

i’m genuinely astonished at how god awful this movie was. it’s probably more frustrating due to the fact that there are parts of this movie that show glimpses of something great. the entire cast is still as great as they’ve always been, but holy crap does this movie feel like a really shitty fan film. the best way i can articulate how i feel about some of the worst parts of the movie is that it just reminded me of…

    Captain America: The First Avenger

this is really a wonderful, wonderful movie. evokes an adventurous indiana jones tone, and the wonder / sentimentality of other spielberg hits. it’s campy comic book fun with so much heart. CHRIS EVANS as steve rogers made this movie, and elevates it to a whole other level. same can be said for the rest of the cast. not a perfect movie, but it’s got a special place in my heart as it is the movie that got me into the…

a little bit of a mess but i loved a lot of it. the music is honestly GREAT (into the unknown and lost in the woods being the standouts for me) i really appreciate that they try to delve into some more mature themes and ideas, however the third act is a mess and way too rushed. it feels like they abandon the ideas in favor of a cookie cutter ending but oh well. maybe a third one?
