    Speed Racer

    ★★★★½

speed racer was something my dad introduced to me when i was very young so it has a special place in my heart. i loved this movie back in 2008, but when i was in my edgy “only the critics are right” phase i kept telling myself this wasn’t a good movie (never ever fall into the trap of trusting the tomato meter as an actual measure of quality, my dumbass 13 year old self did, and it’s dumb. just…

  • Blockers

    Blockers

    ★★★★½

i already really liked this movie, but watching this with my mom last night was a very different experience. this movie has surprising impact on the both of us considering that i’m leaving for college, and it makes me really sad to think that these nights where i watch movies with my mom are gonna be few and far between once i’m gone. regardless of the personal impact, this movie is great!

  • Toy Story 3

    Toy Story 3

    ★★★★½

    melancholic optimism.
i feel like i give way too many 4.5 / 5 stars on here, but oh well. doesn’t really matter to me. no movie is perfect, and i think recently sometimes just the feelings a movie can get me to feel prompt me to like them far more than i have before. regardless, this movie is incredible, and the way it keeps things light and fun while maintaining the emotional heft of its premise is really impressive.

  • John Wick: Chapter 3 - Parabellum

John Wick: Chapter 3 - Parabellum

    ★★★★½

you know recently i’ve kinda realized if i’m in a shitty mood it completely fucks over my judgement. i really loved this on a second viewing.

  • Avengers: Infinity War

    Avengers: Infinity War

    ★★★★½

this shit still slaps. definitely not as emotionally resonant as endgame, but it’s far more cohesive and focused. however, both are fantastic and work as great companion pieces. we already know the heroes so we get to know thanos on a more personal level in this one, and it works really well. idk if it’s a five but it’s pretty close to one, and for what this movie and endgame are, they’re pretty damn perfect.
