Star Wars: Episode III - Revenge of the Sith

    ★★★★

glad to say that this has aged extremely well. while still having some of the flaws that plague this trilogy, the issues are definitely improved upon and subdued. when this movie works, it REALLY REALLY works. this may be a really hot take, but right after the last jedi and empire, this might be one of the best star wars screenplays. the way the entire movie plays out is beautifully tragic and i love it. one of the few prequels to really find that perfect balance between camp and serious drama.
“it doesn’t take itself seriously, but it believes in itself.”

  • Shazam!

this is still just so delightful. breezy superhero fun done right.

  • Honey Boy

    Honey Boy

    ★★★★

nice. shit cut really deep. i will say that this movie isn’t perfect, but you can see how much was poured into this, and the palpability of all of the emotion honestly just sent me. shia is incredible, and noah jupe ripped my heart out.

  • The Hunger Games

    The Hunger Games

    ★★★★

i used to jump on the hate bandwagon for this one, but genuinely i think this movie is really good! the only good hunger games movie in my opinion. the games actually have a tangible horror and fear factor to them, jennifer lawrence is great, and i’m very glad i gave it a rewatch!

  • Long Shot

    Long Shot

    ★★★★

this was so sweet, and i was really surprised by how nuanced the message of this movie was. a little cliché but still very clever.

  • Captain America: The First Avenger

    Captain America: The First Avenger

    ★★★★

this is really a wonderful, wonderful movie. evokes an adventurous indiana jones tone, and the wonder / sentimentality of other spielberg hits. it’s campy comic book fun with so much heart. CHRIS EVANS as steve rogers made this movie, and elevates it to a whole other level. same can be said for the rest of the cast. not a perfect movie, but it’s got a special place in my heart as it is the movie that got me into the…

  • The Maze Runner

    The Maze Runner

    ★★★★

i still think this first one is probably the best one, but i gotta say i really have a love for this series. the maze running is so fun, the characters are great, and the performances are great. dylan o’brien is fucking fantastic, and puts his all into this movie which brings up another great thing in this series, the stunt work! it’s surprisingly great, and wes ball beautifully combines the practical and visual effects to create some insanely memorable running sequences. a surprisingly well put together YA series.

honestly i keep forgetting how solid this movie is. i really really like this movie!

  • Shazam!

    Shazam!

    ★★★★

wow i wish it didn’t take me this long to get around to this one! it was really just a delightful movie. genuinely funny at parts and also very heartfelt in others. the earnest, campy tone really reminded me of the heart of raimi’s spider-man movies. zachary levi is really great as shazam! perfect casting. the younger cast were all really good as well, especially jack dylan grazer. i loved him. the plot is a little bit conventional, but it’s executed so well that i didn’t even really care. let make david f. sandberg another one of these PLEASE.

  • Doctor Strange

    Doctor Strange

    ★★★★

i don’t remember liking this that much when i first saw it, what a nice surprise. super solid all around. i can’t wait to see marvel go even further with the weirder aspects of this character’s mythos.
