A great cast and a good story based on true crime make this film an interesting watch. Set in the 1960s and '70s in San Francisco, the costumes, sets and soundtrack are all excellent.
It is long, at over 2 and a half hours but carries you with it all the way. Robert Downey Jr is entertaining as always. Mark Ruffalo is great; channelling Karl Malden as a San Francisco cop. Jake Gyllenhall and Brian Cox are also here and there are many other faces you will recognize.
The dialogue is earnest and real, the action moves along smartly and there are a couple of quite chilling scenes. Up for many awards worldwide, I am surprised that it didn't get even one Oscar nomination.
Definitely worth investing the time to watch.
