The Color of Money 1986
some great marty-isms and it’s fun seeing him direct around a pool table, but this one is a bit of a stinker. i mean the dialogue and acting is straight up stinky.

After Hours 1985
very disappointed in myself for having waited so long to watch this one. massive smile on my face throughout. so cool to see how much the Ballhaus cinematography influenced marty. after hours is their first go at it. loved every second.

Children Shouldn't Play with Dead Things 1972
the one where a drama kid wants to marry a corpse. missing the black christmas cozy and the christmas story charm, but it’s got a nice and bleak atmosphere. oafy striped pants jeff was santa claus in christmas story.

Witness for the Prosecution 1957
wow og m night shyamalan twist stlye 🤯. sir wilford blasting people in the eyes with the reflection of his monocle as a lie detector test- love that.

Double Indemnity 1944
i know it seems like i’m just handing out these billy wilder 5 stars like they’re candy, but his movies are just so damn good.
-
Sunset Boulevard 1950
didn’t want this one to end. and when the credits finally rolled i googled “sunset blvd monkey,” and it was then that i realized how fuckin crazy this movie really is.

Talk to Me 2022
meh, nothing really too exciting here. predictable, plot holes, no atmosphere. guess the hand was cool for a bit and there’s a couple of fun scenes, but then the story just starts zig zagging all over the place. also, every time i go to an alamo drafthouse i get excited to order a chocolate shake and half the time the shake machine isn’t working. some kind of sick fuckin joke.

Strangers Kiss 1983
new beverly double feature w/killer’s kiss. the 14 other reviewers shitting on this must be real fun at parties 🙄 consecutive viewing of both movies is an absolute must (strangers kiss is a fictionalized reimagining of the making of killer’s kiss). the meta-ness, the terrible acting, the incredible acting, the hitchcockian camera work, the absurdity- this is such a weird movie. should be a cult classic. me and the guy next to me laugh-cried throughout. there’s so little information out there about this. would love a fictionalized reimagining about the making of this film.

Battle for the Planet of the Apes 1973
weakest of the og franchise. i was really hoping that somehow the timeline would work out where boy cornelius actually grows up to be the original cornelius and then the entire first 5 movies is just an endless loop- earth over taken by apes, then the planet explodes and zira and cornelius travel back in time to kick off the ape revolution, apes take over, earth explodes… repeat forever. that would have been cool.
