TOP 5 RICHARD LINKLATER
1.) Speaking of not aging well, “Dazed and Confused.” There’s a lot of appalling, retrograde shit in this movie that Linklater handles with a curiously distant, unsentimental touch. If we’re to go by his telling, this is just the way it was in 1970’s small town Texas: life was a procession of beat-downs and hook-ups and marathon weed smoking sessions in between bouts of hazing and the occasional act of going to class. For better or worse, one of the great high school movies of all time.
