My wife is critical of the whole 'white male asshole celebration' aspect of this and other Paul Thomas Anderson movies, and I feel that, though I do think the movies criticize it themselves, too.
Phantom Thread has continued growing on me since I saw it, the depiction of the two (three?) main characters is so subtle and intelligent that the whole thing is still developing in my mind ('nagaren', sorry, Dutch pun).
The image that stuck with me most is Reynolds' mother as a young bride. The photo, and then the repetition of the image in a fever dream. Exquisitely done!
