avid reader & watcher of fantasy.
my favourite movies.
“you shall age like them, you shall die like them, and all memory of you shall fade in time.”
a beautiful, viscous visualisation of incredible creatures and magic, intertwined with undertones of the 1940s spain all wrapped into a thorny fairytale that young ivana (ofelia) tells so professionally.
i enjoyed that there were fairies and fables cemented next to the reality of war and violence, which can both be seen by young children, as shown by the main character. it simply made me think of my dreams, which are often just as deep and delirious, although not as perfectly put together as guillermo’s depiction.
okay… i was not expecting to like this as much as i do. the ending was so cliché but so good. as soon as i saw andy samberg i knew this movie was going to be all kinds of stupid - and i was right, except i actually loved that aspect. this movie is the perfect length and uses all the time loop cuts incredibly well.
