Feel like I’m going to have the unpopular opinion on this one. Granted, I see nobody in my social circles actually watching this one. But I loved it. Such a simple concept executed so well. This one’s the big gloom, the big feel bad, the heavy discomfort? Side note: I was so happy to see Tunde Adebimpe show up. Didn’t know he was involved. Love that man. Go watch this loon bin film.
An interesting film balancing themes of sexual repression, woven into a bleak slow burn family narrative. It certainly features a moment involving animals, of which that particular imagery will likely remain in my head for a while (for better or for worse). But I think the two major themes are blended well. The director somehow took a real life gay hate crime, and transposed it into a film that successfully blends horror, drama, and a smidge of sci fi.
